Tom Benson sent off with second line through the French Quarter

It was a second line fitting for the King of the Saints.

NEW ORLEANS -- It wouldn't be a New Orleans funeral without a second line and Saints fans made sure that Tom Benson was sent off in style.

"We're gonna be with him all the way, all the way," Glenda Porter said.

Fans packed into the French Quarter to say they're final goodbyes to Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson.

"We love him," Porter said. "He's caring, loving, just an honest man."

"We loved him dearly, the city loved him and we'll continue to hold him in our thoughts and prayers forever," Suger Broussard said.

Benson's city, where he was born and raised, pulled out all the stops to see him off. Bury me in New Orleans is how the saying goes, and today you saw why. It was a second line fitting for the King of the Saints.

As the precession reached its last stop, the crowd parted ways. Their leaders might be gone but Benson's spirit and the spirit of this city will never die.
