Elysian Fields murder linked to man accused in violent crime spree

Police confirmed to the The New Orleans Advocate that 25-year-old Charles Williams has now been booked with one count of second-degree murder in the killing of Lil'Ricky Goins.

NEW ORLEANS – New evidence shows that the man behind a violent crime spree Sunday also murdered a man, according to NOPD.

Police say Charles Williams, 25, shot six people in separate incidents, killing one of them, while also committing two armed carjackings and two armed robberies over the course of a couple hours.

Police say Williams’ violent crime spree began around 4:25 p.m. on Sunday, April 22. According to NOPD, Williams’ drove up to a home in the 1900 block of St. Roch Avenue and shot three people on a front porch. Police believe that incident stemmed from a domestic dispute.

Around the same time, police believe Williams’ fatally shot Lil Ricky Goins, who was found in his vehicle in the 2400 block of Elysian Fields after dying from the gunshot wounds he sustained while driving.

Moments later, police say Williams’ shot someone in the 1400 block of North Villere. That victim is also in stable condition.

Williams' alleged crime spree came to an end at the scene of the triple shooting. Police say Williams’ returned to the crime scene of detectives processed the evidence and opened fire on the NOPD officers. One of which was grazed and is now in stable condition, according to NOPD.

A police chase ensued that ended in the 1000 block of North Carrollton Avenue where Williams’ surrendered to police and was arrested without use of force.
