HARAHAN, La. -- The man who killed himself on the Harahan Police Chief's front lawn has been identified as one of his neighbors.

According to the Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office, the man who took his own life infront of Chief Tim Walker's home was one of his neighbors, 69-year-old George Gaudin.

Police say Gaudin put a gun to his head and shot himself on the Walker's front lawn around 8:30 a.m.

Sources tell Eyewitness News that the man shot himself on a bench in front of Walker's home. He also apparently left a note on the bench asking Walker to look after his wife.

Walker and his wife were not home at the time of the shooting.

"It's not a threat on me. It's just an unfortunate situation," Walker said.

The shooting is being investigated by the Harahan Police Department and the Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office.
