Woman stuck, killed by car while trying to cross street in Arabi

ARABI, La. - State police say a woman is dead after she was struck and killed by a car on LA 39 in St. Bernard Parish Monday night.

According to Louisiana State Police, the crash happened shortly after 8 p.m. near the intersection of LA 39 and Schnell Drive. Police say 63-year-old Debra Miller was trying to cross the northbound lanes when she was struck by a car.

Miller was transported to St. Bernard Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the car, 45-year-old Mallerie Thurman, voluntarily gave a blood sample for analysis. Police say impairment and speed are not considered factors in the crash, but it remains under investigation.
