Convenience store clerk killed early Tuesday on Hayne Blvd.

It happened in the 7200 block of Hayne Blvd. in New Orleans East.

NEW ORLEANS - Police are looking for two men for questioning after an early morning fatal shooting of a New Orleans East store clerk.

"It's going to be heartbreaking for a lot of people because a lot of people loved him. He was a very good person," said long-time customer Larry Bell.

NOPD homicide detectives are looking for clues, while neighbors are looking for answers, after a 58-year-old store clerk was found dead, shot multiple times on his job in a convenience store.

It happened in the 7200 block of Hayne Blvd. in New Orleans East.

Co-workers at the Fuel Express Mart said the 58-year-old clerk was someone everybody loved, and described him as a father, husband and brother.

As regular customers of the Fuel Express Mart heard the sad news, they could be seen inside with tears in their eyes, upset over what appears to be another senseless murder.

Customer Larry Bell says he has a heavy heart.

"He's a very good person. He really was, you know, never bothered nobody. He'd help you if he could, and it's just sad to see him lose his life like that," Bell said.

Police say at 1:20 Tuesday morning, a call came in for an aggravated battery by shooting on Hayne between Downman Road and Crowder Blvd. The victim suffered from multiple gunshot wounds and died on the scene. A Vietnam veteran is a regular customer and was trying to figure out what happened.

"It's bullet proof all the way up to the side where they serve food at, so evidently they must have jumped the counter and went in there to him while the door was open through here," said customer Jay Johnson. People in the store told Eyewitness News NOPD took all surveillance video. They are now asking the public for help, saying they want to talk to two men seen on the video. They are not suspects at this time.

Police say the possible motive is robbery, for the killing of a man customers say was always willing to help you any way he could.

"If you come here, didn't have enough change, I see him let people go and bring it back to him, you know," said Bell.

People who live in the area say it's quiet.

"No, we don't have no crime around here. We don't allow that, huh Larry? We don't allow no crime around here. If you come down here, don't live 'round here, we got to see what's going down, you know, what you doin' in this hood or something," said Johnson.

Police are asking for any tips to Crimestoppers on those two men who are wanted for questioning.
