METAIRIE, La. - Deputies in Jefferson Parish are investigating after a body was discovered in the 17th Street Canal Monday morning.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto said a man's body was found floating in the canal near Orpheum Avenue and Hyacinth Street near Pumping Station Number 6 around 10 a.m.
Lopinto said the Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office will determine the official cause of death.
The JPSO LASER Division and the firefighters worked for over an hour to pull the body from the water.
