Orleans Clerk of Criminal Court finds evidence room broken into

It wasn't clear if anything had been taken, Arthur Morrell says

Orleans Parish Clerk of Criminal Court Arthur Morrell said late Thursday night he was waiting for police to show up to the criminal courthouse after someone broke into a property room used to store evidence.

Morrell said it was too soon to know if anything was taken. He said inventory would have to be taken in the morning.

He said Friday morning that the room only stored evidence from past cases. Evidence from current cases is stored elsewhere, he said.

Morrell said the courthouse closes only after the last judge leaves for the night. He did not know when the room was broken into, but believed it was sometime after 7 p.m. Thursday.

He said an employee found the room’s door pried open.
