Report: Off-duty Orleans deputy shot in attempted carjacking after visiting his mother

According to the New Orleans Police Department, a shooting happened around 11:22 p.m. in the 7800 block of Brevard Avenue.

NEW ORLEANS – An off-duty Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office sergeant was shot during an attempted carjacking Tuesday, the New Orleans Advocate reports.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, a shooting happened around 11:22 p.m. in the 7800 block of Brevard Avenue.

The New Orleans Advocate reports that Sgt. Delaney Jordan had been visiting his mother when he was shot in the shoulder and chest. Jordan was taken to University Medical Center and is listed in stable condition.

Sheriff Marlin Gusman issued the following statement Wednesday morning:

"Violence in our city touches everyone, even members of our law enforcement community. Our investigative unit will assist in whatever way it can. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sergeant Jordan and his family."
