Saints defensive lineman cited for marijuana possession

Lineman David Onyemata was given a misdemeanor citation that accuses him of possessing marijuana in his apartment

METAIRIE, La. — Saints defensive lineman David Onyemata was issued a citation after deputies searched his apartment on January 29 and discovered marijuana, cannabis oil and other products.

According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, Onyemata "was cooperative" and received a summons to appear in court at a later date.

Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto said the department was alerted that a package of marijuana was delivered from New York to Onyemata's apartment. Lopinto said the amount of marijuana was not enough for distribution charges. 

This is the second Saints player to run into some trouble since the season ended. 

Cornerback P.J. Williams was arrested on drunk driving counts on January 23. Williams was arrested for drunk and careless driving. He bonded out the same day.

The Saints season ended in the NFC Championship when they lost a controversial game to the Los Angeles Rams.
