Pilot's body found after deadly helicopter crash in Lafourche Parish

The company who owns the helicopter confirmed crews were still searching for the pilot after the crash in Galliano on Sunday

NEW ORLEANS — Crews have found the body of a helicopter pilot who crashed in the Gulf of Mexico near Galliano Sunday, the Bristow Group Inc. said.

According to a post of the company's website, Bristow Group said the pilot's body was recovered Monday.

"The pilot was a valued member of the Bristow team. Out of respect for the family's wishes, we are not releasing the name of our pilot at this time," a statement from the company said. "Bristow extends our deepest condolences to both families impacted by this accident."

Bristow Group, an industrial aviation company based out of Houston, confirmed that one of two people aboard one of their Bell 407 helicopters was found dead after the aircraft crashed between Galliano and Venice in Lafourche Parish on Sunday.

The cause of the crash has not been announced by authorities or company officials.

“Our highest priority is assisting those involved and impacted by the accident,” said Bristow Group President and CEO Don Miller.

The families of those onboard have been contacted, according to Miller. The company is cooperating with authorities to help investigate the crash.
