St. Tammany firefighters free worker stuck inside pipe in Mississippi

A post from the fire district’s Facebook page showed several photos of department personnel working to free the worker and a later photo showing someone on a stretcher being taken to a helicopter.

NEW ORLEANS — It’s long been known that fire departments do a lot more than just fight fires.

The St. Tammany Fire Protection District #1 says it was called to rescue a worker who became trapped inside of a 30-inch steel pipe at Jindal Tubular USA in Bay St. Louis.

A post from the fire district’s Facebook page showed several photos of department personnel working to free the worker and a later photo showing someone on a stretcher being taken to a helicopter.

The Facebook post said that the worker was eventually freed and airlifted to University Medical Center in New Orleans.

There was no word on the person’s condition.
