Nyx toasts the goddess on the Lakefront as parade near

"Love, support, sisterhood, love for our city and our community, and giving back to our own city."

NEW ORLEANS — The Mystic Krewe of Nyx toasted to its Goddess Thursday night at the Mardi Gras Fountain on the lake front.

The Royal Toast honored Sandra Nix as she prepares for her royal ride.

"To be representing not only our sisterhood, but also the citizens of New Orleans. I never dreamt this in all my life that I would be here. But I'm here, and I just feel very blessed and very fortunate," Nix said.

With Mardi Gras on the mind, bottles of bubbly were flowing. A brass band kept feet moving.

Nix says Nyx means so much to her.

"Love, support, sisterhood, love for our city and our community, and giving back to our own city," she said.

After toasting, some short speeches, and a little dancing, the Krewe followed a second line to dinner, where the party continued.

Just two weeks ago, Krewe of Nyx dedicated all-inclusive playground along the Lafitte Greenway, in memory of its 2020 grand marshall, Nancy Parker Boyd.
